Andes Attack

Minter / Defender

Review over ! lol

Right where to start, colours? check! nice backgrounds, well defined enemies and player. Sound? Check ! Superfluous Minter Chip noises that will take out your speakers as you take out the ever increasing and hopefully decreasing enemies! Gameplay... hard to stop playing... unless the games whooping your joystick! double height virtual gamescreen long and fast horizontal scrolling, classic Defender with 'the' Minter effect. LlamaZap owes obvious aspects to this.

Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

You are playing it already!  Grin

Andes Attack

It's a Llamasoft game! Crazy colour palette rotations, llamas, sheeps and frantic action ahoy!

Andes attack is essentially Defender in disguise. And the gameplay is mostly the same, i.e. fly around with your ship, blast everything you see moving, and try to avert the enemies from grabbing the innocents and turning them against you (which in this case they are llamas).

As in every Jeff Minter game, there's lots of stuff happening on screen, lots of explosions etc. The graphics aren't that pretty, but they do their job. The game frame rate isn't that great but it manages to keep the game playable. The game mechanics are really spot on, so the game plays really well. The enemies' A.I. is nicely programmed with lots of variation, so you have to learn the different tactics and know how to evade and fight back.

While Jeff did a much better work on this game with Defender II, it's still worth checking this one out as well.
