Incredible Shrinking Sphere (ISS)

Well well well, here we have an original and challenging game  Smiley

Set on an isometric tiled maze, you must successfully guide the sphere around it, picking up weapon upgrades and killing enemies along the way - sounds simple, but controlling that spherical hero is another thing entirely and will take a good bit of swearing before you master the balls momentum.

At the start of each level you have the humorously titled screen called "Place a Dump" where you can drop off some ammo dumps whihc you will need to ensure your sphere remains well armed.  Each level is tiered, so there are holes/lifts to take you between the levels to find your escape goal.  As in other games of this style there are tiles which perform different functions - the "?" tiles are random results, other shrink you whilst others make your sphere gains weight and become less responsive etc

The scrolling is a little jerky, but the fun gameplay does make you forgive this and you should find yourself becoming rather addicted.

Bomb fusion

After overcoming the initial urges to reset the machine after seeing the in-game graphics (Spectrum!), this is actually a fun game.

It's a static platform game. Your character can jump around the platforms and there's even vertical wrap around, which makes reaching for higher platforms easy. The game's goal is to grab those red circle things that run around the platforms and deposit them in the blue box with a yellow stripe. Deposit enough, and you're cleared to proceed to the next level. To make things challenging, there are some bombs scattered around that get their fuses lit up, one after the other. You have to diffuse them before the timer reaches 0 (of course then instantly another fuse lits up, but gives you some time to go and deposit some red circles). If the timer reaches zero, you lose some energy. Finally there's a boulder running around as well, which if you touch costs you some energy too.

As mentioned, the gfx are really sub-par regarding the ST's capabilities. At least they run at 50fps constantly. The controls are snappy too, which helps as you have to do some tricky platform jumping. I wish they'd have implemented horizontal wrapping of the main character too - that'd be even more confusing but flexible!

In summation, a fun title that I never found before I booted the menu!
