Title: Partially working fixes
Post by ggn on 16.11.07 at 14:10:06
As you already gathered, each fix we release has mandatory this set of requirements:

  • All features of the original game present (i.e. no missing intros due to low disk space, etc)
  • HD compatibility
  • Falcon compatibility
  • TT compatibility
  • a crapload of memory required Errr, I meant stability. Yeah. Stability. :P

Try as we might, there are some cases that we simply can't manage to have this full set, so we put these games aside and work on something else (so we can return to those at a future date). But since this stack of games is beginning to pile up (don't worry, we all got plenty of disk space on our Ataris ;)), we are wondering what to do with these incomplete fixes.

The most typical example of this is games that work from HD on ste/megaste/etc, but fail to work on falcon. I'd really like to read your views on that!

This is hard to answer aka needs another option ;P. It's a two sided knife. There is the chance that a game can be falcon fixed but something is being forgotten or needs a trick. If it's released then it's most likely forgotten.  OTOH if the game can't be falcon patched then it' s possible that time will be wasted and that it will not see a release sitting in a work in progress folder. So my vote goes to case decisions.

Well, I don't mean stuff that use (for example) a syncscroller, like Enchanted Lands, or demos etc. What I'm talking about here are games like Outrun, Super Hang on and others that work on some Falcons.

Maybe we need a new section on the website for Work In Progress releases?

We could put these all on there, with the explicit note that they do not meet the full D-Bug seal of approval requirements, that we know about certain issues, and that you try it for yourself?

Just my opinion.

This sounds good to me, CJ. And we all know that you would only release quality stuff normally, but itīs a good possibility for us to test the games out.

I don't have a falcon, so I'm happy for you to release anything that's HD fixed...  Some games on the falcon page already say not 100% falcon compatible (I think), so as long as you label them I don't see the problem.

If a game can't be Falcon fixed (Stardust anyone?) but *is* HD patchable then PLEASE release it!

That's my 2p's worth ;)

Yep - they're both good examples of what I mean.  Kudos to you for releasing them :)
