Title: 'PlayST' - Use PSX Controllers on Your Atari!

(GGN - please move to announcements if possible - this is a thread to gauge interest in Alison's new project).

Techie Alison has created a new (as yet un-named) adapter for Atari machines that I'm calling PlayST - it's a neat little lead that allows you to connect Sony PSX controllers to your ST (& Falcon, I assume).

Based on PeST, the really clever thing about this device is that although it acts as a normal joypad in digital mode, press the 'analogue' button on your PSX dual shock controller and it turns into an analogue mouse controller!  Plug two into your ST, and you can play two player games and use the pointer in GEM at the touch of a button!

I've currently got a prototype in my possession, and it is absolutely ace.  Alison has given me authority to post info here about it and to formally enquire if any of you guys are interested in buying them (and how many) so she can see if it's worth getting a run of PCBs made up.  Price is possibly going to be around the same as the PeST (around the £20 mark including P&P).  As with all of Alison's products for your money you'll get full support and a high-quality build.

If you are interested, post up here.

I want 2, for me the psx controller is the best, coming in just ahead of the snes pad. I've got a box of ps controllers, came with a load of ps dev stuff I got, so the £20 for the adapter is fine for me. So, anyone want to buy some ps pads? ;)

Am I the only moderator here?

Moved ;)

Btw, sorry, I never owned a playstation in my life, so I don't think I'll be interested in this one. Plus, the few times I tried playing with the PS joypads I couldn't feel comfortable with them. Pac-man style joysticks FTW :)

Which reminds that at OL09 I should bring some joysticks :)

On the psx pad note, I don't think I have a use for it either.

Alison is *still* perfecting these, adding support for autofire and second joystick buttons too (for games like Fire & Ice, etc.)

I have an early prototype that is now my primary atari joystick! :)

In related news, a friend of mine is working on a C64 PSX adapter with mouse and paddle support built in :) - he also said that making an ST/Amiga one will be easy, so if Alison doesn't complete the adapter then there is always the potential of another source.  IIRC, we discussed pricing at £15 each, £25 for two (+P&P).  I've been using a couple of his programmable CD32 PSX adapters, and they really are ace.

Over at AF she asked if there are still people looking for this gadget. Get in touch and she will build some.
