Title: Robocop 3
Post by remowilliams on 28.12.08 at 04:41:45
No matter what settings I choose on this bad boy, it either sticks at the credits screen 'Robocop 3' while continuing to play the digi music or it crashes with some white lines of garbage on a black screen.

Running on MSTE 4MB/2.06/Satandisk 1GB SD FAT16/BigDOS

Bigdos.. first incredient in the recipe of failure.  What HD driver? If it's HDDriver try minimising your cache settings.

Using HDDriver 8.2  I have the cache settings set to zero, and it reports 37K usage on boot.  I tried that 999 thing, but then it made HDDriver use like 1200K.

Is BigDOS that much of a hindrance?  The reason I use it is because it's incredibly handy to have the SD card in FAT format for PC/ST file transfer.

I don't really know. I imagine that this is the case. The D-Bug people should know better but I can really see it as being a problem.

I was wondering if it might be a memlo issue as well in regards to BigDOS.  So - I went ahead and grabbed another SD and this time partitioned it as TOS and installed HDDriver directly to it.  No longer using BigDOS.

Results:

16mhz on / ramdisk off: crash - black screen with white lines of garbage
16mhz off / ramdisk off: same as above
16mhz off / ramdisk on: keys advance through credits until back at 'Robocop 3' at this point no key/button does anything visible, digi music still playing
16mhz on / ramdisk on: same as above

pm me your email address, i'll send you a debugging build of the loader for RoboCop III and we'll see whats up.

I suspect its an ACIA (keyboard) issue though.

Can you try not pressing anything during the intro until the F1/F2 etc option appears?

Tried that it just goes back to 'Robocop 3' and sits there, same as if you skipped through the credits.

I've PM'd you a like to a debugging build.

I'm wondering if it's due to you having a US Atari? Could you try the one on floppy from our menus as thats what this HD version is based from?

Just tried the 43A/B menus and it does the exact same thing.  I don't touch anything, it rolls through the credits and then stops at Robocop.  Floppy light stays on at that point.

Well, if the menu version doesnt work then this one never will - glad it's not ULS :)

Maybe it's a 60hz issue.

You could install a 50/60hz boot sector on D43 and see if that helps ?

Hmm, do you know of a prog that will write that boot sector.  I thought I had one handy but it's just a 50hz floppy booter.  That didn't seem to work though, it looked like the auto menu might have shifted it back.  Hard to tell.

I really want to see a 16Mhz Robocop3, always liked that game.   8-)

Yeah the menu would force it back.

I'll bash up a "set 50hz" version and link you to it later :)
