I can claim some insider insights into this one actually. Dave Hollis, the main man in charge of ST+ was a fairly hardcore Trekkie even before his Atari stuff. The amount of replica Starfleet ship models dangling from his kitchen ceiling testified to that.  ::) He also ran another diskzine preceding ST+ called 'The Panther Owners Club' which was an Elite/Frontier fanzine so it didn't stop at Star Trek.

Slightly later on, he got into the dark side (PeeCee) and the gaming possibilities offered there.  :(
