Hi,

if you code something and need help on the graphic side just let everyone know - maybe someone can help out.

The other way around should work aswell  ;) (that is, you got graphics or even an idea, and need the code...)

Nerve: nice idea, but i assume its most likely the other way round.  :'(

Hi,

so, guys: Letīs turn it around.

Iīd love to contribute to a megademo. Unfortunally i was in the last years mainly "off-the-Scene" due to job tasks...  8-)

Iīm looking for a coder and i got an idea for a mainmenu.

The idea:
-----------
The mainmenu looks like a navigation system. Not the ones of today, but a navigation system for the solar system.

The look is a mixture of an old transistor radio and a child drawing pad. With two handels to draw. One handle draws vertical lines and one handle to draw horizontal lines. I am lacking the english and the german word is "Zauber-Mal-Tafel". Damn it!

I did a sketch to visualize my idea and a first *.IFF file with rasters.

Any coder interested?

technical: (As far as a grfx man can guess....  :-/)
-----------
-contains rasters
-control of the selector and two handels (animation)
-varying logos and therefore varying rasters
-removement of the lower border would be cool to get a little more space for the handels

could be done in gfa, as the technical is sooooo basic.  ::)

(1.) First third of the screen is the selector.
A first version of the selector is in the attachment. The purple stuff in the middle is supposed to contain a starfild/galaxy ...whatever. A star represents a demo. The stars / demos can be chosen by turning the handles in the last thrird of the screen. Turn left handle to move horizontally. Turn right handle to move the vertically.

(2.) Second thrid is the display of the "found/located" star/crew in the solar system. Any crew can enter an own logo (with restricted coloros) -i.e. any palette exept =black plus 3 fixed colors for the frame around the logo.

(3.) The last third is the part with the handles to move the selector.
round handels/modulators for the selection within the (upper) starfield...

Just have a look at my attachments.

Is anyone by now not totally confused?  :D

!! Sorry the pic is hell toooo big !!

Hello Dan!

I like your idea for a main menu very much.  :)

But we are already working on a bigger main menu (i donīt want to blab too much at the moment).

Maybe we could use your idea for the alternative menu which will work also on the Falcon. The standard menu wonīt work on the Falcon.

What do you think?

Hi RA,

sounds fine ...

Is there anything youīd like to change to concept, before i get to work on the selector?

Dan

Hi guys,

guessing you already followed this thread, but are not up to date towars the "second mainmenu" i will give you a short summary of our achivements:

Some months ago, RA_pdy and myself started with a second mainmenu for this great production.

The grafix and main design seem to be ready by now.

The lucky thing is: "you can be part of it"  :o

The idea behind is as follows:

Every crew, who supports the megademo with a screen is free (!) to enter a logo for the "second mainmenu". There are few restricitions to sending in a logo to make it fit in the general concept.

Here is the simple BETA-grafix for the menu:

Have a look at the static: In this box you are free to display the logo of your crew / The name of the screen or anything we haventīt even thought of. The restrictions to the logo are:

1.
Size (x/y) 256*38

2.
Colors:
--------
Color 0      - 0,0,0
Color 1-3  -free
Color 4      - E,A,0
Color 5-E   -free
Color F       - F,F,F

3.
Please use the common formats as: PI1

We will be happy to receive some nice and creative logos... ;D

@zorro2:
i just promised to do another pdx logo; i will see, if i can make it in time. Just give me clue, what you would like or if it should reference to oyour screen. Aaaahm and... just curious: should it be a "no extra" or "atari legend" logo?

@per:
youīre welcome. It was a quickie one.

NoExtra of course 8-)

Bring your time ! In fact, we need a superb logo GFX for the beginning of the intro (anysize inside 320x200).
Of course we have one, but fresh creativity from you for this contest seems to be much appreciate :D

If you are alright, PM-me to give us our email.

could I submit a logo even though we (torment) won't be submitting a screen ?

our coder is simply too busy :)

Title: Re: Help with graphics for a screen
Post by dan on 29.09.09 at 22:23:54
@spiny: errr, why not?! Judging by the concept of the "selector", it would be a "star", but no screen. As long as it goes along with the above "logo-restrictions"...

But .... Iīm a simple grfxman, so havenīt got a clue about memory management. So, i hand the question over to RA  :-X

Hi Spiny.

Hmm, i think a logo without screen doesnīt make much sense because the logos are for selecting a screen...
Maybe you could do a logo for a crew which still need help.

I see your mails, actually I redo my PC because it crashed since 3 days, I hope that I can see your last gfx tonight ;)

I answer soon !

I suppose the yellow frame picture is made to be complemented by some rasters to give a fullscreen look on the left and right side ?

Title: Re: Help with graphics for a screen
Post by dan on 16.11.09 at 16:47:10
What you see is an early stage of development.

Why should i ruin the surprise?  :-?

The restricions to your logo stay the same...  ;)

Please consider the "XIA"- and "Paradox"-Logos as examples, what is possible. Your individual palette will used. Please donīt use extra rasters.

Sorry guys, i messed up the color-numbers for your logo entry! There is a (slight) change to the colors for your logo. Please see the above. Itīs color 4 that takes the value A,E,0! If you got problems changing it, send it to me, i will take care of it, as it was my fault.  :D

Hello!

Then, should I post my logotype
picture here, in this thread?

Else, I will email it to RalfZenker.

Goodbye,
SOLO BITS (bits.atari.org)

Hello!

I sent today, some hour ago,
the logotype for representing
"BITS" in the main menu.

I sent it as PNG and PI1.
To have the colors ordered
and as requested in the
rules, a special program will
be needed, a program that
can handle palette color
positions. Which do you use?
Neochrome doesn't offer the
change of color positions.

Greetings,
SOLO BITS (bits.atari.org)

There is no graphic for the Paradize screen as of yet - and I can't provide one that is 100% to the rules.

I could submit to someone a cropped old logo but it probably needs to be redone for the limitations, including reordering of the palette.

Any takers?

Title: Re: Help with graphics for a screen
Post by Dbug on 28.11.09 at 20:28:37
Solo, you can change the colors index in neochrome (and neo master), not sure if it's with right click, control or shift, but you can definitely do it.

Title: Re: Help with graphics for a screen
Post by SOLO on 28.11.09 at 22:58:23
Hello!

But it is not the palette index, but the bitplane pixel number...  ;)

If I paint the logotype and orange $e0a000 is converted by
the .png2.pi1 converter as pixel number 15, and this number
must be white. And I desire orange with pixel number 4.
Exchanging the indexes of the palette doesn't exchange the
bitplane numbers :)

Goodbye,
SOLO BITS (bits.atari.org)

When I want to do that with neo master, i load a pic in a buffer, then choose another buffer (empty) . I put the palette in the right order in the empty buffer. the I go back to the pic buffer and use the "jack knife" tool : shortcut "J" , select the logo , go to the buffer with the good palette directly by pressing it's number on the keypad and then press F5 "remap" . and voila pic has the same colours but they are re-arranged :)

Title: Re: Help with graphics for a screen
Post by Heavy Stylus on 29.11.09 at 00:27:28
GGN talked me through a easy way of re-ordering palettes using Deluxe Paint.

Right click on the icon to the LEFT of the icon that looks like an S (or a $).  A window will open below the toolbar.  This new window has a copy of the palette in it.

Then, left click on the colour in this small palette that you want to move.  Then click on the 'remap' button.  Click the colour in the palette that you want to swap the previous colour with.  DONE - you've moved a colour in the palette and your image will be unaffected!

Repeat and rinse until you have the colours in the right order (IIRC, black 0, white 15, e a o at 4...or whatever the rules stated).

Hope this helps a bit :)

Ok, here is my contribution :)

Yesterday I released my picture conversion tool (PictConv) on pouet: http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=54124

Since it is possible to "lock" color indexes in PictConv, I took the opportunity of this thread to show how to do that, with a small example involving XiA and Paradox logos already submitted:
http://www.defence-force.org/download/PictConvExample.zip

The resulting pictures are 6112 bytes, 32 bytes for palette, and 160*38 bytes for the picture. No header.

The batch file contains the parameters used to convert the picture, and the pictures have the additional "-p1" palette (as mentioned in the documentation).

Hope it helps :)

(note, make sure you have the version 0.14, I stupidly broke something in 0.13 yesterday when I submited, so I republished a version this morning - same location)

@ssb: Your "minz-original" is converted by now. Still looks good, even though i put my hand on it.  ;)

@solo: i converted your logo, swapped the colors and it works fine.

@heavystylus: o.k.
