Stunt Car Racer

Who hasn't heard of this?

Take a dragged up Steel framed go cart and stick it in a minimal 3D landscape with some Rollercoaster tracks and an AI oppenent! Very capable and playable, could almost say arcade title, loosely taking the Hard Drivin' concept and making it more accessible and playable for the home market.
Nice graphics, functional sound.
Also features serial link up for a head to head.

Today I gave Hawkeye a go. I remember the C64 version got good reviews back in early 1989 so I wondered what the ST version is about.

The game is a sidescrolling shooting a jump'n'run. The player controls Hawkeye, a sort of half-man half-robot to collect some sort of puzzle pieces together.

The level scrolls both left and right, depending where the player is facing. Sprite movement and scrolling is very smooth for ST standards, the background is even parallaxed. Music by Wally Beben is only found on the title screen but quite good. Ingame there are only standard YM effects.

Gameplay feels a bit repetitive but the overall quality helps a bit. Anyone who likes sidescroling jumpers with a lot of action (I would go as far as claiming Hawkeye was Turrican alike), should give the game a try.
