Helter Skelter 90 problems
18.12.08 at 13:53:43

Guys, a couple of problems with the Helter Skelter crack we're playing right now in STOT

- Your version doesn't appear to have lives Wink You die once and it's game over, even though the lives counter says 5. In one game I even collected all the letters for "EXTRA", and I saw the life counter tick over to 6 as you would expect, but the first time I died it was still game over.
Everyone is having this issue on different systems and emulators.

- Highscore doesn't seem to recognise when you get a high score! I'm not sure if this is just me, because I've seen other people in STOT with their names on the scoreboard, but they might be using a different crack. Anyway, my sccore of 246,370 (with 1 life!) didn't get me onto the highscore board, even though the lowest 2 scores are 100,000 and 200,000

Apparently these are issues with the original Automation cracks as well.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. if you have more important things to do, that's ok... Fuzion menu 22 seems to work (but of course isn't patched like your version!)

Cheers,
Tom

Ah, something else minor, but maybe a clue to the logic behind the highscore issue - I notice there is no "game over" screen when you die, you just go straight back to the title screen. In other versions of helter skelter, you DO get a "game over"

Just to confirm, you are playing Helter Skelter 90 and not Helter Skelter?

I'm sure that when I played the DBug version I had lives, but I can't be sure without loading it up again...

Over to you, GGN, CJ et all.

I can confirm this "One life without GAME OVER screen" behaviour.
I played under Hatari with settings to STE (loader screen said so too), 4MB and TOS 2.06.

To be honest, I have had the automation version I fixed for over 15 years now and never spotted this behaviour. And I have played the game a lot.

I'll take a look when I can.

Oh dear - yes I confirm that it does the same on real HW - STE TOS2.06 4MB.

Better fix this before Ppera starts complaining!  Cheesy

You'll be sorry! Smiley

Anyway, I definitely can't get rid of these bugs with hardware/emulator/TOS changes... if you could look at it, it would be good, as I'd prefer to use the DBug version for STOT if I can! You did this work on Helter Skelter in 2008, it seems stupid to use an old Fuzion crack

I don't know squat about coding, but I'd guess that when you lose a life the game misses a section of code and just quits back to the titlescreen.  Here's hoping it's a quick fix and the code is still there, just skipped!

Bad/evil Ppera fixed it without even seeing this thread  Smiley

Just another bad Automation crack. Sadly not only one on Gamebase ST.
Yes, some part missed, probably protection related, but it was easy to guess what to put there...

I just know about this little bug in Moonshine Racers. When you have finished your first drive and delivered your Moonshine the program asks for Disk 2. But if i press Space the message appears again and again.

Why you not PM me with this ?
I'm waiting too for some answers, replies, for instance from Christos.

Anyway, Hook HD adaptation (don't no about old floppy crack) works not on my Mega STE.  And it is not the only one. But I'm really not in mood to discuss about it, as my MSTE was described as oversoldered etc... Actually, there is only 2 wire added in ACSI-IDE adapter to allow access above 1GB on SCSI hard disks. As is visible on photos where mod is described. And problems happen with Hddriver on partition below 1GB, as Hddriver supports not my adapter mod (naturally).
Funny, but with my driver it works good. Although, I did not finish game with your adaptation, but if floppy version was OK, I believe that HD adapt. is OK too.

Well, as far as I am concerned there was nothing to reply to your pm here. We are referring to two different things. I am talking about your public attitude and you are referring to your surprisingly polite personal message in AF. Which came a long time after the original issues but that is not the point.
Nobody here enjoys bashing you or picking a fight with you. We just  point out issues with your work so others can be warned before using it. Nothing more nothing else.
Have a happy 2009.

Enough trolling and off-topic replies here. I got the message, will fix the game when I can. If people want to report bugs, feel free to open another thread. And NO TROLLING (you read this badbadbadbadbad?)
