Wings of Death TFMX issues

Hi

We've had 2 or 3 reports of the TFMX music locking up after loading level 1.  Try as we might we cannot reproduce this here (It works on all 7 (!) Falcons that we have available for testing!)

So.. Here is a new version (based off the unpacked one I posted previously for someone) with 2 files - WODTEST1.TOS and WODTEST2.TOS

If anyone having issues with the TFMX amiga audio could try these and report what they get, it would help a great deal in tracking the error down.

Things to note when replying:

1) Do you get the "Loading, Please Wait" music or not?
2) Does the screen flash after starting level 1?

Thanks, with your help I hope we can fix this for everyone!

CJ

Hey guys,

i tried both of the programs (WODTEST1.PRG and WODTEST2.PRG) and itīs the same like the other Version.

If i choose Amiga Music in Title Menu, i get Amiga Music on the Title screen (The ST and Amiga Titlemusics have slightly different endings) without problems. Then there is that wonderfully drawn picture of Erik Simon (Spectrum512?!?). After that i get an "Insert Disk 2" which i ignore and press Space.

Now i am in the Main Menu, so I press "Start Game".
Then i hear the Amiga-Loading Sequence Music (Itīs the one without that cool "Ple...Ple...Please Wait"-Sample) while the program tells me itīs decompacting Stage 1. After a short time i get the "Press Fire to enter Stage 1"-Message. No problems until then.

Then i press Fire and i can see the game for about 1 second scrolling and 1 second i can hear the first notes of the Amiga Music of Level 1. Then it locks up. The Screen freezes and the Music hangs and plays just one note over and over again.

There is no Screen Flashing or something like that at all.

Could it be my PhantomS Accelator? Or HD Driver? Or my 14MB RAM Card from Petr? Or is my Atari just angry that it has to play Amiga Music? Wink

The game works fine when i choose the ST Music instead, but i did not play it until the end yet.

I hope i could help you, but if you have questions donīt hesitate to ask me. I will try everything (!!!) out for you on my Falcon to make this game work with Amiga Music.

Thanks for your help and patience,
Saviour

Damn... I was hoping one would be silent while loading.

No flashing is good tho, as that was a "I can't find the music data" error check I added.

OK, back to the drawing board - I'll probably put up another 2 tests tomorrow if you could try those.  I'll set the background colour at various points so we can try and work out where it is crashing.

(Yes, its a Spectrum 512 picture. On your falcon. - OK I cheated and converted it to RGB and hacked the display routine for Falcons Smiley....)

2 more tests for you

Please note - you will NOT hear any audio (music) with either of these but you should get the sound effects, just let me know if they run or crash.

Still the same with these 2 Versions but with one difference: I donīt even see the playfield there, just a black screen. Sad

Yes, i loaded up your WODTEST3.TOS and it tells me the following:

*****
Ramsize: 1.5 Megabytes
Work-Ram: 1204112 Bytes
Sync Mode: 60 Hz
SFX Mode: PSG Digital

This is a Blitter Machine!
Blitter Status: On
F1 to switch Sync Mode
F2 to change SFX Mode
F3 to (De)Select Blitter
*****

I am using a VGA Monitor to play my games.
I hope that helped you!

Cheers for your help, CJ! Smiley

*EDIT* Just tried your WODTEST1.TOS and deselected the Blitter and voila! It works fine. With Amiga-Music enabled! I just finished Level 1 for a test. So the Problem must be the Blitter it seems.

Fantastic!!!

I have no idea why it would do that, but I will try and put up a version that disables the blitter (and uses the data from the original (packed) released version)

Sorry about the problems with this... and I hope you have now unhinged your jaw Smiley

I just tried this out for the first time on the Falcon.  Why does this game ignore the fact that I have the internal speaker deselected (and external speakers hooked up) and start obnoxiously blaring music through the internal speaker?

I don't know - lots of things ingore the speaker settings, which is why I 'fixed' mine with a pair of wire cutters.
