My failed attempts (so far)

As you can imagine, not all our attempts at fixing games are always 100% succesful.

Hard disk drivers (HDDriver's huge caching buffers is a big nuisance to us), IKBD issues (we're still trying to figure that one out), not 100% backwards compatible hardware, and many other reasons get in the way in our crusade against floppy drives Wink

So, without further ado, here's what's on my WIP folder for some time now, either demotivated by them, or forgotten them and moved on to different games:

  • Joust: Well, this works on one falcon, but doesn't on the other Smiley Uses GEMDOS calls, so it needs some work until it's good
  • Starquake: Well, tbh I completely forgot this one! I remember dumping the files, but never testing it at all Tongue
  • Super Sprint: Same deal as Starquake!
  • Time Bandit: Well, not even started on that one, but I have a folder there Wink
  • Driller: Well, that runs for a bit, then hangs (likely to be using system calls)
  • Hotshot: Hangs at the title screen. Needs more investigating
  • Ghouls'n'Ghosts: Depacks all files, then hangs. Well, at least Ghosts'n'Goblins works Wink
  • Mercenary (and the 2nd city): Haven't started on these yet
  • Startrash: Loads stuff, then hangs at the intro
  • Bubble bobble: Grrrrrrr! I must have spent a month in that, and I STILL haven't managed to make it work Sad Fixed by Shw
  • Eliminator: Sigh... I spent even more time on this. Probably needs a replacement IKBD routine...
  • Helter Skelter: Hangs at the title screen, IKBD dead most probably
  • Rainbow Islands: Well, that crashes at some point, but the code is a bit weird to trace thru... I'll re-try at some point (sorry Lotek Sad )
  • Xenon: Well, this one's irritating as well. I'll look it at some point again

Well, that's about it for now....

Here's my WIP folder:

Buggy Boy - Works on one falcon, crashes on the other
Chsae HQ - Random lock ups
Empire Strikes Back - Doesn't start
Giana Sisters - Plays intro, the no video output on game (music runs)
Outrun - Works on one falcon, crashes on the other
Monster Business - Video corrupts on falcon (bad screen swap code)
Airball - Only works on keyboard (dead mouse/joystick)
Crazy Cars II - Locks up
Cybernoid II - Dead keyboard
Garfield - Crashes in a Trap
Super Hang On - Dead IKBD
Platoon - dead IKBD
Rampage - Crashes in a Trap
Red Heat - Works, but no Arnie sprite
Roadblasters - Crashes in a Trap
SilkWorm - Timer B faults
Simulcra - Data disk needs patching, else all ok
Starwars - Malloc() problems
Vixen - Screen offset to wrong address on falcon

and the perennial

Epic - This is just being my Arch Enemy Tongue  (Crashes after intro)

It's not all bad news though, the Feb FixPack is currently being prepared for release!

george interesting about the Supersprint..

for what its worth, a while back i had an idea to do some kind of supersprint hack (extra levels etc) so i got an original and dived in.  it was the first ever game i tried to hack, and i mucked about in monst for a while, and navigated the protection.. if the protection 'passed' it just bloody ran another executable, so i just renamed said file to .prg and viola!  instant f030 fix LOL

so basically, only the pants protection wasnt compatible with a falcon

but damn i then started to peek the code, and lord have mercy it was some kind of compiled interpreted language, basically the first 10k of the program was just a massive jmp table.

at this point i switched off the falcon and another good idea bit the dust

Cheesy

Ah, Epic.  The AdSPEED STe really kicked the intro up on notch on it (And it was kicked up even more on my A1000 with an 030 for the Ami version).  A Falcon should almost make the game playable, IIRC.

Ok, after my mammoth SNDH ripping extravaganza, I've turned my attention to HD-Falconfying a ST game.....

first up is Bionic Commando

Current status :- works via HD on my mSTE

To do :- Add Falcon support, train.
