Is this possible via a Frontend ?

Firstly apologies in advance if this is the incorrect section.

I was wondering if there is any possibility of running the Fix releases directly from Steem via a emulator frontend ?

The front end I'm using currently is LusSpace and it would be nice to directly launch ST games but the main reason for my request here is the Fix packs there is no disc swapping once installed.

This is just thinking out aloud but I would like to know one way or the other.

Many Thanks and Keep up the great work!

Sure I tell you what I can.

LusSpace is a multi-system frontend which can directly launch games with your chosen emulator it does currently support the ST with the tosec sets but doesn't work great especially with multi disk games. That is where your guys fix packs come in - no disk swapping!

Here is the link to the frontend homepage

I'm no techie but I will try to assist best I can

Hmm okay.

So I would guess that this calls steem and tells it to mount a disk image (didn't download it or anything, I'm at work Wink). It's true what you say though, there's absolutely no disk swapping with our fixes.

So what I would obviously do is copy each fix on a disk image of its own, then point the frontend to it. Of course some fixes simply don't fit on a single disk, so what you can do is use TOS 2.06, which can handle 1.44mb disk images (our fixes are tested on 2.06 so you should be ok).

BTW, sorry if I didn't understand what you are trying to say here. Are you asking for help for how to make our fixes work with that front end? Or maybe something else?

Yes your right, that is what i'm attempting to do  Cool. I'll try your suggestion (makes sense) - Would I put the files in a 'Auto' folder for it to boot or is it better to let it go to desktop ?

There should be no problems with placing them in the auto folder. It gives us even more memory Smiley

Two considerations though:

a) .TOS programs don't get executed in the AUTO folder, rename them to .PRG
b) Place only the executable in the AUTO folder. The data files (if any) should be placed in the root directory.

Hope this helps, keep us posted!

Again many thanks.

*I have done this procedure with 1943 and works fine will try it with other games over the next couple of days and will give you an update in around 2 weeks time as I go on holiday on Saturday.

Could you please advise how to format a disk image to this size ? I've tried using the standard TOS 2.06 format option from desktop. Your help is much appreciated.

Here's a sign of how i'm progressing (and i'm happy with it  Smiley).

Just create a custom disk image from the steem disk menu and make it 80 tracks, 18 sectors and 2 sides. Voila! It's a valid TOS disk without the need to format Smiley

I have added the majority of your Fix packs into disk images for use in LusSpace now (Total of 64 games  Smiley). These are all the games that fit on either a standard floppy image or the 1.44mb as discussed above.

The only ones I've not added are those that are too large for a 1.44mb disk image, So further to your advice earlier, whats the biggest disk size a version of TOS would support ? Or is 1.44mb the maximum ? Also is there a version of TOS which supports 1.44mb disk images, but doesn't do that damn ST Memory check.

Thanks

Hi there,

I had another idea just now: Is it possible to set up a hard drive on steem, then copy all the games in that partition? Then you could make different msa images that contain a small program to load a patch.

For example, the following gfa program if placed on the auto folder of a disk will load a patch:

Code
Select All
RESERVE 10
CHDRIVE "C"
CHDIR "\XENON2"
~EXEC(0,"XENON2.TOS","","")

You can change the path and filename in quotes to load different games. The only caveat is that I can't remember how to change directory in GFA. Anyone can help? [EDIT]Never mind, I remembered (Thanks SSB!)

Then you won't have to worry about disk sizes (I'm afraid that the 1.44mb limit is it) and TOS images (I think that TOS > 2.06 support 1.44mb images).

Just check your favourite GFA manual for CHDRIVE and CHDIR
