Atari STE Enhanced Joystick Ports...WTF?!?

What on earth are the two male joystick ports on the right hand side of the STE for? I think they are called Enhanced Joystick Ports and support JagPads... Am I right?

Is it possible to plug normal joysticks in these (with some sort of adaptor?) and play 4-player games?

Does anyone here use them? Does any software support them (Gauntlet 2, for example)?

Yes, you are right. They are the exact same ports found in the jaguar. But only a limited amount of games support them. IIRC reservoir gods games support them, paradize games should as well. Not sure of any other. Power up + maybe?
Also IIRC gauntlet II supports only a parallel port joystick adapter for 4 player gaming.

Cheers Christos - your answer was a lot more helpful than the answer posted at Atari Forum by Ppera...  Anyone know where I can get a parallel 4-player adapter?  Maybe I should ask Techie Alison if she can build one...

I really want to play Gauntlet II 4 player...!

Seems a real shame these EJPs weren't more widely used.  They are in a far more accessible place than the ridiculous under-the-hood ST ports.

I built one myself (it's fairly simple) and it's been tested on 2 Falcons and a MSTE, and was donated to kradd at outline Smiley
