i have an atari mega ste with 4 mb and a hard drive and none of your patched games run on it. I wonder why they don't work?

so my atari mega ste has 4 mb of memory and an hard drive and i m french  .

my auto directory is empty and when the intro with various options appears (16 mhz, cache ...) i press space and bombs appears on the screen.

two games have been striked by the problem : robocop 3 and f1gp 

i guess my description is good ?

i've tested final fight and no second prize and both crash after the dbug intro . In fact the new intro seems to be responsible of my system crashing because yesterday i've successfully tested wonder boy and parasol star which do not have the new intro.

How does your MegaSTE behave normally? In the desktop. I guess a good idea would be to try running the game first without cache, second at 8 mhz. It might very well be a h/w problem. My MSTE has a cache problem which causes some bad behaviour. Let's see if we can narrow down the problem.

i've tested every possibility of setup for games and always the same error so can you help me to find a prog that will allow me to modify the cache of my hard drive?

OK, if I understood correctly you are using AHDI therefore you shouldn't have a cache problem. So I guess something else is wrong and I can't help any further. BTW, what's your TOS version?

Have you tried auto booting one of these patches from floppy?  Create a bootable floppy disk and copy the *.TOS file from the game into the AUTO folder on the floppy (any data files should be kept in their own directory on the floppy root).

For eg.

A:/AUTO/GAME.TOS
A:/DATA/GAME_DATA_FILES

Then turn off any peripherals, cold boot with the floppy in the drive and see if the program/intro still bombs.  If it works, then you can identify that it's an AUTO folder program on your HD (or accessory) causing the problem.  Or a peripheral (unlikely).

A lot of these game adaptations will NOT work if you are running Teradesk, or have any memory resident programs (including any ACCs).  The best way to run them is from a cold, clean boot.  Using HDDriver you can bypass the AUTO folder on your HD for a minimal boot using the Control key - I don't know if you can do the same in AHDI...

OK I'd suggest finding one that fits on a floppy (eg, Monty Python) and booting without ANY hard drive attached at all....

If, at this point, it still crashes then I'd have to go with "hardware issues" as these patches DEFINATLY run on a 100% clean boot floppy system.

Actually, I just thought - there is another possibility:

When you unpack them, do you unpack them keeping the original folder structure, or do you have all the files in the same folder.

It should look like this:

GAMENAME (folder)
   contains:
     DATA (folder)
     loader.tos

DATA (folder)
   contains all the files.


If you have done a "flat" unpack then yes, they all will crash. Good luck!

yes!!!! it works
