Carrier Command is a great realtime strategy game.
The player takes control of a sort of Aircraft carrier or even amphibious assault vessel to regain control of an archipelago of islands.
The carrier has on-board aircraft, amphibious landing craft, a big laser turret and missiles, all for control of the player. This equipment is used to battle a similar vessel which is under AI control with the same objective.
The game environment is presented in fluid 3D filled polygons and all the action takes place in realtime. The player can mount the aircraft and start flying over the island. (Important to know that you have to stay in range of the carrier because otherwise the airplane will crash.)
Islands can be settled with bases for production or defenses. I never really got far but it has a great athmosphere and it is just great to fly your aircraft.
Different start settings can be chosen such as a strategic game with an empty archipelago and the socalled action game where the world is already divided into half and half and you can directly start combat over Thermopylae island.
All islands and named and the game interface is well sorted. Music is limited to a digi tune while loading, otherwise only spare pings and bips are heard from the YM.
This game was ahead of its time and is still great to play. Definite recommendation for playing!
