Ok, before anyone starts posting anything here, I'd like to stress out that we do not have the man power to take up requests. Neither me nor CJ can respond to requests, because we just have our own agenda!

My idea is simply to see what the people would like to play on their machines' hard drives.

You never know, you might inspire us to do a certain game (that memory isn't what it used to be you know Wink )

So, get to it Smiley

[EDIT]: I'll cross out the games already fixed Smiley

I started on Gods many moons ago with ULS.

Got it to load upto the title screen, I must reinvestigate it when I have time.

I'll probably come up with some more titles later, but Lemmings (and Oh No!) come to mind as great titles that would be nice HD additions, since they are basically pick up games.

I'm trying to think of some other titles where I was murdering the floppy.

Also, Gauntlet 2 would be another great HD titles.  I think I murdered a couple copies of this in the late 80s early 90s.  Always a great 2-4 player pick up game.

Chopper X, mainly cause I never beat, guess I need to hunt down a trainer for my lame self.

I made a ULS version of SF2 so hopefully making it Falcon shouldn't be too complicated.

As for NZS, I love that game... so I'll definitely have a look... Motherfuc%ingkiwib@ast@rd  ?

Hmm, I remember Marcer telling me some time ago that there have been falcon compatible versions of DM and CSB... dunno about HD compatibility though. Marcer, if you read this could you comment? (alternatively I'll ask him on irc)

Captive eh? Well, all in due time...

Well I just purchased a Falcon off of Ebay and I don't have any games for it yet. My wishes for patching would be Artic Fox and the Gauntlet 1 2 and 3. I wish there was trainer for Artic Fox. With no way to repair
the Artic Fox makes it really hard to play.

Well, if you'd like to actually write Gauntlet III then I'm sure building in 030 support from scratch would be easier than patching it at a later stage....

Smiley

As for I and II...............   we've already stated how well they run at 16mz in vga on another forum Tongue

*blinks* Huh? What has that got to do with fixing ST games for the Falcon?

Nobody at D-Bug has any plans to write an emulator, sorry.

There is a list made in 1994-95 that was just that, the settings needed for certain games to run with backwards. Just do a google search and you will find it. If you can't I'll upload it here. And doesn't the D-Bug version of SF2 work on falcon without any other settings?

The gamegear and the spectrum have a lot of hardware differences apart from the CPU that a standard falcon is not able to cope with. SMS+ has  been ported to the Falcon but needs a 060 processor to be of any use.

Was that the ULS version SHW?  People should check out Patrice's version, it's much better I am told (new version written by Patrice, not a hack)

Personally, a properly fixed (not just load from AUTO in C:) of Dungeon Master would be the bomb.

Yeah I've seen Patrice's version. Very neat, but it's not complete.

Personally I've never seen this version, but I thought that it was ok since I never heard any people complain about it. (also I don't like DM too much ;)). So it can't be loaded from GEM?

Hi there

MR BENN wrote on 02.11.07 at 21:09:50:
hi,would like to be able to use audiosculpture mono and colour versions from hard drive if possible. At the moment i just get put in auto folder message when try to run from hd

From what I heard Synchron Assembly makes a copy of TOS in RAM and patches it heavily. I'm afraid that it would be really hard to get it to work reliably from hard drives. Why not trying to use Wizzcat's Protracker? It had superior replay quality too.

MR BENN wrote on 02.11.07 at 21:09:50:
and how about midwinter?

Under consideration....

MR BENN wrote on 02.11.07 at 21:09:50:
loved that game.Anyway would just like to say thanks for all your hard work....really great to be able to run titles from hd on real hardware...never thought i would see the day Smiley

Thanks! That's all CJ's fault you know Tongue. He got a hard drive for his st and he had all this huge free space with little or no games in it. On the other hand his amiga was stuffed with games. He then said "wait a moment, if the amiga can do it, so can the st!".

Please stop aasking all this nonsence like +Jagpad support, or picking games that run on other systems.

On the jagpad support point, I personally think its one of the worse designed controllers ever released. I find it uncomfortable and horrible to be around (a bit like the people in the Jaguar 'scene' hehe)

However, Gods and Lemmings are good games.....

I am very sorry for talking "nonsense", i just wanted to come up with an idea on my mind. I just don´t know what´s possible...Sad
But what game did i pick that works on Falcon without being patched?

Well, i like it and i know a few who like it also. And, come on, there are better ones but it´s not that bad. It´s good for playing Blum, Reeking Rubber, Willies Adventures and so on.

Jag pad support?!  Can you fix future D-Bug releases so that they also use the extra buttons on a CD32 pad as well?  Cheesy

Just joking CJ...!

Atari were pretty crap at designing controllers weren't they?  I remember my original Atari joystick being really uncomfortable too - and god knows how you were supposed to hold a Jag pad for long periods of time.  So many buttons too!

Hey Saviour,

No problem, keep the suggestions coming Smiley

Just please, everyone, don't expect more than "it works now" with the possible exceptions of cheats, 16Mhz + Cache options.

Life is difficult enough to do that sometimes Smiley

I'd like to see the following titles:

Tracker
Starglider

The former doesn't even work with TOS 1.4 (mouse pointer doesn't move), while the latter is STE compatible.

Haha - I'll give that a go then.  Cheesy

It's an odd game isn't it?  I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing, but I've been having fun experimenting.

Here's an idea... any chance of D-Bug including docs with future releases?  There's been quite a few games that D-Bug have patched/released on their menus where I haven't got a clue what to do.  Wink

I appreciate you don't really do requests, but I thought I'd post my updated want list anyway (I've removed these from earlier posts to avoid duplication) Smiley

Eliminator (Hewson)
Oids (FTL)
Slayer (Hewson)
Thrust
Stardust (Bloodhouse/Aggression)
Magic Boy
James Pond
Skweek
Sabotage (I believe SHW has already filed this one...)
Jim Power
Rubicon
Exile
Zero-5

These are the games currently in my diskbox that I'd like to eventually see on HD.

Note for non-Falcon users...  The Superior cracks of Magic Boy and Exile run from HD (well RAMdisk actually - you don't need their FFLS disk driver for these) with no probs on a 2MB+ Atari.  Google for 'Atari Superior Disks' and you'll find a list of contents, then go to PlanetEMU for the disk images you want.

Some of the others work too, but you'll need to install the FFLS driver for them, and I don't like that Tongue so I'll patiently wait for a DBug crack.

Skweek

Are you sure Magic boy doesn't run from HD? IIRC it's on files. As for skweek, well I got super skweek running from HD, but it's not released because it hangs on the falcon :/

The crack of Magic Boy I have here isn't filed (IIRC)...  I do generally try copying files over to HD before posting requests here ya know Wink

Oh - and I found a load of game manuals last night (as text files).  Most of your patches here are covered (1st Samurai, Awesome, Devious Designs, and many others) - do you want me to email them over?  They are typed by various people, but I don't see the problem with including them in your game zips... Could help a few people out there who (like me) haven't played some of these games before.

OK - will do tonight.

Just so you know the source...  I did a search on LemonAmiga for game entries with manuals that came out on the ST & Amiga.  There's pages of matches there, and I think about 75% of your patches have docs.

Have a happy easter, and I'll probably speak to you again on MSN next week.  I'll email the docs over to your Dbug address.

More double requests Smiley

Definitely
  • Oids
  • Captive
  • Dungeon Master - yes I know there is a 'HD' version of this but it's a pain in the butt to run - easier going off floppy ... hmm on second thought let me check the AL version.
  • Cosmic Pirate

Now I just have to put a new clock in my Falcon ....

cheers

So, as I'm new to this hemisphere I thought I'd ask - do you find it irritating having to wait 12 hours to get a reply to each post while the top of the globe wakes up? Smiley

Oids and Cosmic Pirate are awesome games.  I'm no fan of captive, and I must be one of the few who think DM is one god awful boring game Smiley

But I'll look into the first 2 for us both Smiley

G'day cobba. Throw another PASTI on the barbie Tongue

Now for SSB:

Goldrunner should be easy.
Star Wars is suprisingly more difficult than you might think - I've got it running on the falcon but in the trench sequence there are no enemies for some reason? Needs more work Smiley
Pacmania - should be easy

and finally - Giana Sisters.

Its been in my WIP folder for months - I have a HD ready version working but there is so much "wrong" with it for the falcon it is a HUGE job to fix.

(12 hours later...)

I still think that if you've managed to half-fix a game so it runs fine from HD on an ST/STE but *can't* falcon fix it then you should still release it (for people like me who don't have falcons)...  Perhaps under a WIP heading on the list page?

Oh, and is there any chance of getting No Second Prize to save data to a floppy disk? Wink

Sorry for being an annoying requester!

Oids rules BTW...

Well, if we did a "HD but not Falcon" page, it would have instantly (I'd guess at) around 40-50 titles on it.

The problem with such a page is that once something is gets a "release" from us, we tend to forget about it and move on. I'll talk with the others and we will see what comes of that.

As for the Goldrunner original - 100% not needed, its on an early Was Not Was menu as a single part file. Should be a simple fix. Unless the Falcon gets in the way of course.

200% agreed with this. For example, Lemmings is already ready to go for STs, but as it messes up on the Falcon (possibly TT too), I won't release it yet. Also, if I do release it as-is, then you can almost forget a 030 compatible version. Which would be a big shame now, wouldn't it??

Well, in this case Barbarian (Palace Software) was quite a success too...

It's a shame I cannot run it on my STE  Cry

Also, captain blood (with Jean Michel Jarre's Music)

and a game called "skateball" or "skatewars" (ubisoft)

never ran on my machine...  Undecided

But I think to convert an ST only game for (M)STE,TT and Flacon should be really tough. Anyway if you succed into theses miracles...  Shocked

Ok I'll start work on Viking Child (other ULSers take note),

I ripped the music from Twinworld recently, so I'm aware of the game code so I might do this one too.

DGen - SHW
Viking Child - SHW
Twinword - SHW

D-Buggers, perhaps we should create an internal thread similar to the advent calendar with stuff we're working on, to avoid duplication.

I would really like to see Battle Master (PSS) HD/Mega STE version (i haven't seen any version that is working on my current setup. EMPIRE crack gave me no problems with 520STE and TOS 1.6). It's a shame because it's very good game.

I would also like to see B.A.T I and II english version (Mega STE fixed) and proper fix of Legends of Valour for falcon (the only one  version that I know turns the ym sound off, I could provide original version). LOV is already HD ready...

It seems that Elvira II is also missing in DBUG catalog...
And maybe Corporation HD by Core Design with full intro (I'm not sure about this one, I've got 1 disc version, so maybe it's crippled one without intro.)?

Hi guys,

today I woke up and somehow I remember one old dream Wink You do know Robinson's Requiem. This game has its pros and cons but I remember how it sucked when I realized this game is ST RAM only. I.e. CT2/CT60 owners could do nothing to speed that game because it has to be in ST RAM. What do you think, would it be possible to patch to have it nicely in TT RAM to speed that lazy bitch up? (Probably we're talking only about binary as I doubt you'll have the energy to trace where's malloc'ed graphics/music and where is malloc'ed some other stuff which could go into TT RAM). IIRC, the main problem was it has its graphics / sound loaded directly into BSS segment, not the usage of malloc() instead of mxalloc()...

Kind of subrequest: what about making RR/Ishar 3 CD versions hd-friendly? Now I have to run them from the root only (Marcer's DVD).

No problem CJ but it's tooo long until then! Smiley Btw that CD versions aren't big deal, they refer to c:\robinson.cd and c:\ishar3.cd so it's easy to edit (to .\robinson.cd for example).

The bigger problem is that ct60 compatibility -- I looked a little into it, not only malloc/mxalloc and bss/mxmalloc needs to be fixed but it uses also some smc for depacking, argh! Btw this can be fixed also on regular (non-CD) versions... please guys Wink

Btw, CD version of RR contains something which could be absolutely awesome to have on ct60 -- normal 3D FPS shooter !!! So called arcade mode. But slow as molasses on plain falcon, this needs 060 + Fast RAM, aaaaa Smiley

Alrighty then!

I don't foresee a huge problem with fixing the paths problem (Top Banana and Super Stuntman had the exact same problem!).

And the caches problem while unpacking again shouldn't be a big problem (just disable caches while unpacking).

The fastram bit... hmmm, as you say, it uses BSS so that should be a problem. Unless its state machine is register-relative. For example Elvira loaded an address register (a5 iirc), and all variables in the game were accessed using xxx(a5). Then maybe an mxalloc at the beginning of the game, and pointing a5 there could solve the problem easily (yes, I like being optimistic Tongue).

The real question though is: Is it worth it?

I remember playing it on my ST, and it had horrible rendering, full of inaccuracies and low resolution. Is the Falcon verision any better regarding these two aspects?

I mean, if I do spend the time fixing this, will people play it in the end or would the end result just be a wasted effort?

And by the way mikro, you have provided the ct6x community with two classy FPS shooters, why don't we turn to other genres? Wink

Really waiting for some comments.

Hi ggn,

after some thought I think the cache is OK (because it works on 030), it's probably something different (no idea Smiley. And yes, IMHO the fastram could be fixed exactly in that way.

You didn't play RR on Falcon? Ouch! It's really slow here on full details, however, it's really nice (textures for example). I don't say it's ass kicking piece of game but it has its fans... as i wrote in my first post, my dream (and with no doubt of some others) was always to see it on accelerated machine. today i happend to play it under dosbox, that was something! i'm sure many ct60 users would enjoy it...

And RR isn't FPS in this meaning... it has just mode called 'arcade mode' where you got some automatic gun from the start, there are monsters all around etc and this mode is exclusively only on CD ROM version, i.e. it's quite exclusive release (since nearly nobody have/had CD version of RR until Marcer's DVD).

So I think it's worth of the effort but of course it's up to you, I don't want to force to you to anything you wont like..

Well, I never saw this. Let me have a look and I'll think about it!

(It would be suicidal though to send the game via ghostlink (which I use for the moment), so I guess I have to come up with something more clever! Prolly the jaz!)

BTW, did you try running the game on hatari or aranym?

Well, playing and testing a couple of the new 'space disaster' games due for release soon has left me hungry for more ST SciFi...

So here's a new list of games I'd like to play please Smiley

Alien Syndrome (Auto CD29)
Blasteroids (Auto CD80)
D-Generation (Not on a menu?)
Defender II (Auto CD412)
Killing Machine (DBug CD138)
Narco Police (Auto CD397)
Obliterator (Not on a menu?)
Paradroid 90 (Auto CD390)
Rotor (Auto CD240)
S.D.I. (Auto CD44)
Slayer (Auto CD138)
Soldier Of Light (Auto CD33)
Super Space Invaders (DBug CD31)
Supremacy (Auto CD425)
Switchblade (Not on a menu?)
Turn & Burn (DBug CD181)

Some of these I've not actually played (SOL, Killing Machine), but I've added them for the hell of it (on the off chance they are 3 minute jobs).  I've saved you some time already by listing the menus!

Anyway, this list doesn't include the great games you are already working on AFAIK...  Wink

Not that the games are so good but the Space Ace and Dragon's Lair "move your joystick at the right moment" series of games seems a good candidate to make HD compatible as well. Chancing 4 disks every time is annoying.

Is Swiv already Falcon & HD compatible? I think that can use a little speed increase.

Switchblade (part 1)

Done, Falcon has ACIA issues. Won't release till it's fixed.

Defenders Of The Earth

That's true, me too i've tried a lot of time to play it from automation disks and it has never worked on my ST. And as i know that it was an ambitious game for the ST i think a 16 mhz fix will be even better.

it's more interesting to play a true 16/32 bits games than a 2600 ports of an old midway game  Smiley.
by the way it could be great to have a robinson requiem uls and also i wanna know if it's possible for you to patch wolfenstein 3d ports made by ray's 32? in order to have a clean install of this fabulous game for atari st.
my atari mega ste would be happy to run the trilogy of lotus esprit turbo challenge.

maybe it's installable but robinson requiem seems to not be interested in the 16 mhz mode and in the cache. a bit more of speed would be useful for this game.

in my opinion it will be great to have a fully compatible version of predator which one doesn't work on atari ste, mega ste ...
it's the same case with Renegade ( the prequel of double dragon)
maybe it would be fun to test Shinobi with a 16 mhz option

i've forgoten to mention that it would be nice to have an ULS version of jim power

Well I really doubt that the game would detect the machine and if it has cache or cpu setting then set it to slow speed. If you set your mste speed via the control panel and then the game won't run faster, then there's little we can do.

That wasn't the case, on the news page was only announcement, not the game itself. On the other side -- there it is now and ... I'm happy as little boy, thank you guys!

A slow, jerky, unplayable mess turns into a faster, jerky unplayable mess.

Welcome to Stun Runner!

ha ha!!

Those are all St games selected from Atari Legend!!!

BattleZone? was that on the St?

Nice to see Shadow Dancer... I can almost now get rid of the Mega Drive, Altered Beast and Space Harrier?

Thanks

It's not like I requested Super Frog?

How about a 1 disk version of Stardust?

I've always enjoyed the 3d adventure games : Castle Master 1 & 2, and Total Eclipse.
I can run a version of Castle Master 1 on my TT without any patch, but this is not the same case for the second Castle Master and Total Eclipse. These 3d games will be improved with a 16 MHZ fix.
If you have the time to do it ...
Thanks  Smiley

Hello D-BUG,

Llamatron - doesn't need fixing Really I'll try my 1MB version out again?! must have missed that one!  ( Not LlamaZap)
How about the other Minter games?

NSP (HD Fix) - done that's great!

Hows about some really old ones like

ST Protector
Plutos

Silkworm?

Rampart could do with a 16 Mhz HD fix too!
I finally made it to the last level! Smiley I'll have to right a play guide soon. tactics! Smiley

You might do max cannon's?
+5 seconds increment for rebuild.
Island construction kit?

Hydra? Can this be worse than STUN Runner?

Snowball Fight ( Bit late now ) tho it might snow again!
Downfall another snow game.

Hoversprint

Apache Flight

Thanks for the list fix!  Grin

Quite impressed with Shadow Dancer. Glad I found the music off button! Smiley

How about you go and check if its been done BEFORE asking for a fix???

Can you manage that?

I'm pretty much done with patching games, mostly due to posts like the above and the completely underwhelming response when we do release some - so unless GGN or Shw fancy doing them I suggest you send all requests to Hungary or buy a Floppy Emulator.

Thanks CJ  Cry

I do try and check several archives... I only have very limited time online

The Wings of Death Fix was the best yet! Grin

Is there a chance that you might do

Speedball 2
Chaos Engine
Turrican II

In the same way?

I'll try to get round to making my own edits.

Yes, D-Bug did Speedball II and Chaos Engine already.
But i am not sure if Sn00py was asking for patching them like D-Bug did with Wings Of Death, that means with Amiga Sound on Falcon.

Please guys, check this site here and look if your request haven´t already been done before you post.
http://d-bug.mooo.com/dbug/patch.asp
And come on, i have very limited online time as well but even i manage it to spend 2 lousy minutes to scroll through the Patch Section.

Thank you very much CJ, GGN and SHW for all those great games you´ve done for us and i really hope one day you'll find some motivation again to have fun doing some more! Smiley

Adding TFMX music is extremely non-trivial... and not something I plan on doing again, sorry.

Although I do have a workin TFMX F030 version of Warp sitting on my HD. Maybe one day....

btw, sorry for jumping down your throat.. long day.

Snoops. Think there's a misunderstanding. Tfmx (the final music system extended) was a music format created by Chris huelsbeck and jochen Hippel. However the format on the Amiga was not really used too much. It was mainly used by rainbow arts and thalion. Therefore theres not a multitude of games that can be Amiga tfmxefied.

I've already done ninja remix. Other possibilities. Turrican 1&2. Z-out. Cross-out. Jambala etc.

Not like me to make a request, But here we go, Populous 2 The one meg version with the pretty-amiga-esque graphics, I'm not even sure if I've ever seen a working ST version of it. (there was a CERTAIN version that crashed if you didn't put the trainers on.) Other than that I didn't know it existed. Thankyou. Smiley

(I'm hoping you know of that CERTAIN version, If not, Let me know.)

If I wasn't such a xunt, I'd have noticed there's a perfectly shiny and working version on Dbug 70-something. :/

Sorry, Smiley

maybe it's installable but robinson requiem seems to not be interested in the 16 mhz mode and in the cache. a bit more of speed would be useful for this game.

Well I really doubt that the game would detect the machine and if it has cache or cpu setting then set it to slow speed. If you set your mste speed via the control panel and then the game won't run faster, then there's little we can do.

What about CT60, I still wish to have a running RR Falcon CD version on my CT60, also the HD installation is pretty lame, you must have it in the root directory or so.

While we are at it, a fixed/CT60 version of Ishar III CD would be pretty cool as well (for example the background music could be louder, I doubt it's intentional).

RR CD runs on the 060 (under MiNT too) if you use the 040 executable:

Or another crazy idea -- as you might know, SimCity is done as a GEM application. Unfortunately, due to packers and who knows what it's not even compatible with Falcon (at least under Hatari) ... I suspect it uses standard VDI to draw things so maybe it wouldn't be that hard to adapt it to run under let's say XaAES in multitasking? By adapt I mean throw all depacking routines, maybe do some proper appl_init() ...

Well, I managed to get the game running on falcon, and even stretch the window - unfortunately it seems to be using custom drawing routines which assume that screen width = 160 bytes. So everything comes up as garbage. Maybe if people are interested in taking this further I can dig up my experiment and put it online?

It's also really slow! Anyway, we tried to fix it for Falcon some aeons ago, but we had some problems with its polygon filler which would display random horizontal lines all over the place! It should be on someone's hard drive - whether we'll get back to it is another matter though Smiley

It's really sweet at 16mhz. I played this a lot when it came out.

Just played "the masters" crack of this game.
It plays from the desktop, but only from the floppy drive.

Interesting game. Good Graphics and Stereo sound on the STe.

Nice pick!.

Spoke to ggn yesterday evening about "Klax", a nice little
puzzle game. It seems to run fine on the MegaSTE at 16MHz
with cache on, which comes as a surprise to me, but funny
as it sounds, it does not run on this machine when booting
cleanly. I get it to run only when loading NVDI.

GGN asked me to put it on the wishlist, just so that it's not
getting forgotten, but there doesn't seem anyone else
interested in playing this game ...

Thanks for a bunch of very nice recent patches! Smiley

Hi there !
Since I am a big fan (and I own the original arcade pcb) I will love to see a Falconized HD version of "Moon Patrol"  Smiley
I tried also "Bubble Bobble" on my Falcon but no luck.
I know I might have to get rid off my (spin)CD driver and have a "clean" boot but I am a bit lazy  Wink
Thanks DBUG team !

I really liked the cleanness of the 2600 version, plays a bit more like and arcade 'mastermind' type game. the 16 bit versions are ok it's a nice game.... just wish there was a 4k version that had the look of the VCS Cheesy

I always found the trouble with Klax being that the coloured blocks always drop in the same order, It's to make sure you can't get stuck, But most people back then just remembered which block was coming next. Smiley

With the glut of RATT games getting done and re-done. A working version of Captive 1.2 would be nice, (First one to point me toward that certain version that doesn't work gets an anti-medal.)

hmmm, wonder if the in game samples could be bolted on xbios style to Zynaps?

the original review in 'the one' complained that in game msx and effects were poor and the amiga was to be a superior version.
